Vick's Floral Guide 1887

I took this scan from an 1887 Farm and Home newspaper.. I'm pretty sure that I LOVE old advertisements..  :)  Especially ones with veggies and flowers!

The Programme

If you look closely, the essay on the second page is titled 'Black Spiders'. I thought that was fitting for the upcoming holiday of spook.

Ohh.. the treasures!

Yesterday I visited my aunt and she gave me an antique photo album to scan. Yeay!! Like a child in a candy shop! Soooo... I have about 60 new images for you! Over the next few weeks I'll post them. Now, I can give her the album back and she'll let me take another.. and another.. and another.. you cannot begin to imagine the amount of antique images, postcards, letters, and ephemera that she has! Wooohoooo!!

Harum-Scarum!

I scanned in some more dictionary pages for you.. the Halloween page spread is so much fun! Words like 'harum-scarum' and 'happy'. I also rescanned the letter, sans the ephemera. I thought perhaps you might like to use it as a background without my 'stuff' on top.

Enjoy!

Dictionary Pages

These pages are from a 1923 Webster's Dictionary. It is tiny! The dictionary itself measures about 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". Hope you like them! I'll scan in more pages as time allows.. any requests for certain words? It is a 'selected' dictionary so the vocabulary is limited but most of the standard words are there.

It's one of those days...

It is a day for reverance, thought and forward thinking. I wonder if anyone in 1887 would have foreseen the turmoil our planet is in now when they created these ads? We have come so far, but also not very far at all...

Some Antique Advertisements for you...

I scanned these from an 1887 Farm and Home newspaper that came from my grandfather's attic. The mice got the corners but you get the images! (minus the musty smell.. bllleeeaaaaagghhhg..)

*UPDATED* Bookplate, mermaids and question marks...

I'm not quite sure where I grabbed the pic below from.. if anyone knows, I'd love to give credit or be slapped if need be... please use it only for personal use as I am unsure of it's background..
** THANK YOU LAURA! :) I did snag the image below from Sandra Evertson. It was one she offered up to readers of her blog HERE. It is for PERSONAL USE ONLY.. *** She gives a lovely tidbit on using it for a bookcover.

Hope you are all fabulous!

blah blah blah...

:) I have been fighting a bogus shoulder and my scanner not working, and I have to admit, I'm hooked on Facebook. Anyone else on Facebook? Here is my link if you'd like it... Facebook Link. Just put in the friend request 'vintage moth' so I know how you found me. If that doesn't work, you can search for 'Abbie Mooney'. There are only a few of us (how strange is that when someone else shares your name??) I have the cutest pet on Pet Society. My days are exciting aren't they? :) Ah, well.. I need some distractions.

Here are your images.. would love to see you around the 'net!

A few highlights...

Juno used a ribbon image she found on The Vintage Moth and created a fabulous .png image. You can see the orginal ribbon image here. Thank you Juno, lovely work!

I will try to post some .png images, as I know they are great for layering if enough people would like them.. any takers? Just leave a comment and let me know what you think. For those who are unaware, .png image format allows me to remove the white background, making what appears white on the screen to actually be translucent. When you apply them to your digital work, only the image appears, not the white box around it.

Also, Kathy Caloway, of Caloway Creations, used one of the Rooster Images and Yearly Egg Count Register to create the wonderful piece above. I love it!!

I am trying my best to get to emails but time is not on my side. I'm thinking about starting a Flickr group for you to be able to post your creations. I'd LOVE to see what everyone is doing with the images from here. Oooo! How about a monthly challenge?? Let me know!

Also, the February challenge for Mind Wide Open was just posted! Come and play!

Ok, images you can use... these are some that I picked up from the fantastic (and 'oh so lucky')Rhonda. (check her blog to see what I mean.. it's 'killer!') You can visit her Etsy shop and find some marvelous, authentic antique and vintage ephemera. she has such a passion for mixed media work and HER SHOP is filled full with great things!

I think that covers it! Oh! I also added a Guestbook to the very bottom of the page! Please sign it!
