I have been in the process of doing the same thing, taking illustrations, etc from Children's books. I am glad I happened upon your blog. What have you found is the best way; taking photos or scanning. Also which program is best to get the pics black and white? I have publisher and photo shop. I have been playing around with both. Any tips to make the process quicker would be amazing! Thank you for sharing. -Susan
