Antique Rhinoceros Image- Free Clipart Image
Hey guys! I went to an estate sale this morning and found a few antique books from the late 1800's - 1920's that were falling apart but perfect to use for the blog. One of the books is called "Wood's Natural History" from 1899. It includes all sort of different animal images and I really love this rhino profile. I've posted the original image here with the original colored paper and one that is just black and white.

Vintage Illustration and a Cat Update

I have received a few requests for an update on our sneezing cat. First of all I really, really appreciate all of the responses and advice that was given. You all are very kind! I looked at all of your solutions and researched them on the web to see if that was the problem.

He wasn't feeling any better a few days after that last post so I took him back to the vet. We saw a different vet this time and she really looked him over- in the ears, nose, mouth and we even ran a few tests. The good news is that he doesn't have Feline HIV or leukemia. I was really worried about these two diseases because we have another indoor cat and didn't want to spread those to her. On the other hand the vet thinks he has feline herpes (to which my boyfriend at the vet replied, "see I told you I got the herpes from the cat." He was kidding of course, he doesn't have herpes, but the vet thought it was funny.) Feline herpes is spreadable too but since the two cats don't share anything or get too close to each other, I'm not too worried at the moment.
I guess there isn't a good test available for the herpes and there isn't a whole lot you can do for it anyway. But if he does have it, it compromises the immune system so it will take him longer to get well. Actually, I think herpes is a pretty good guess because all of the symptoms match this link.

The vet gave us an antihistamine to try to dry him up so I gave it to him over the weekend. It made him super sleepy so after 3 days, I stopped the meds to see if it was any better. It seemed to work- the sneezing was quite less and he wasn't coughing at all. A couple of days ago he started really sneezing again, so I gave the meds to him and he was better. His appetite has improved tremendously and before the second trip the vet, he wasn't really wanting to eat- now he wants food every three hours which is great because he is underweight. It looks like this isn't curable but since I work from home, I able watch him closely to monitor any changes and then treat it right away.
I somehow came upon a website that says that you can improve a cat's well being with a raw meat food diet. I would like to try the Nature's Variety food and was wondering if anyone out there has their pet on a raw meat diet. Any likes or dislikes about raw meat for pets? Thanks! -Sarah

Vintage Clip Art- Meow!

My boyfriend and I are taking care of a stray cat we found wandering around the neighborhood. Yes, we are suckers for animals. Normally we wouldn't take another cat (we already have one and a half cats, one inside only and one only comes in to eat.) However, he was skin and bones and is just so sweet, loves to be held, and is always ready to cuddle. How could we resist?
However, the little guy wouldn't stop sneezing so I brought him in to our local vet. He was diagnosed with a respiratory infection and sent home without meds stating that it was a virus and would heal itself. When he wasn't better three weeks later, the vet gave me some meds and some chewy treats for his immune system. However, it has been another 5 days and he's not that much better. Is anyone out there familiar with this illness or had something similar with a cat? Could it be something else? Do cats get allergies? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Vintage Photograph- When Pets Dress Up
I received a 1920's set of books entitled "Boys and Girls Bookshelf" yesterday in the mail. I spent last night looking through them and admiring the great illustrations. When I came upon these photos in one of the books, I just had to share them with you. Turns out we've been dressing up our pets for a long time!

I did a quick search on Amazon to see if there were any other old books about this topic and although I didn't come up with any literature, I did have a giggle over the fact that the pet Snuggie got higher ratings than the human Snuggie.

Vintage Clip Art- Here Fishy Fishy
I once had a goldfish that I won from a fair. He was a hearty fish and lived for over 3 years and even through a move across town. Oscar was his name and when he finally passed, I buried him in the backyard- I just couldn't bear the thought of flushing him down the toilet.
I love this illustration of a telescope goldfish. It feels like he is looking right at me- and now at you too! -Sarah

Vintage Clip Art- Anatomy
I'm taking a quick break from cute images to add a little weird to the blog. This is an image of the anatomy of a chicken. I found it in an old nursing book (nursing for people, not chickens. Don't ask.) How often do you see this? Pretty much never.
Don't like weird? Tomorrow I'll be back to cute again. -Sarah

Vintage Clip Art- Equestrian
I'm not quite sure why I love the equestrian die cuts, but I do. Maybe because it is a peek into another world that I'm not familiar with. I tried horseback riding one summer and found it to be quite scary to be that high on an animal, not really in complete control. But I do love horses- when I'm on the ground. -Sarah

Thank you..

Thank you for your patience.. your continued support and your friendship! My life is slowly calming down, although now the pull of the outdoors is calling. We have chickens now, gardens to plant, veggies to grow, sheds to build and it's all good. Hope that Spring is taking root in your lives and that goodness is flowing! (or Autumn, depending on which hemisphere you are in!)
